There never seems to be a point at which every bit of my laptop works simultaneously. After months of sabbatical, my left shift key has deigned to resume functionality, but in the meantime a much more aggravating fault: the sound card has vanished. It doesn't even show up in Device Manager. No volume control widget to be seen. Trying to reinstall the driver only ends in an crash error.
The weird thing is that I vaguely remember this exact same problem happening to me before, either on this computer or my previous desktop one, but I can't for the life of me recall how I fixed it or if it was just one of those problems that mysteriously fixed itself after a few firm reboots.
And Googling gets me nothing useful.
I hate having to actually take a computer in to the shop, it feels like an admission of defeat. But I'm not a hardware guy, especially with laptoppen. I think I dread the idea that I'll take it in to the shop and it will turn out to be a software fault after all, it'll be something I should have thought of, and I'll feel a fool.
